Our Best Adventures

World of Florida

We moved to Florida in 1986 after living most of our married life in California. We never imagined that the state of Florida would be so varied, so expansive, and downright fascinating.  Starting with America's oldest city - St. Augustine, to the world's foremost space launch site, Florida contains a wealth of history as well as tomorrow's technology on display today.

In 1986, we drove through Florida in search of our new home in Orlando.  Our son John noticed the "Evacuation Route" signs along the highways.  Hmm, what's this?  Years later, we would understand why when one hurricane after another hit with a vengeance! But, more about that later...

Initially, everything looked much the same to our untrained eyes.  We were familiar with the mountains of the west.  Here we found miles of swamp, rivers of grass, endless beaches and millions of palm trees.  In addition to millions of palm trees, we found a large variety of oak, cypress, tropical trees, flowers and vines abundant here in Florida.  Many native plants and flowers add to the mix.  If you really LOOK around you, there is much to be seen in Florida.

For a quick tour of the Florida we have traveled, we start close to home, then widen the circle.

Manatees Blue Springs

Manatees gather at Blue Springs State Park to warm themselves in the 72 degree waters.  During winter months, when the ocean is cold, they swim up the St. John's River to Blue Springs.
